Residents raise gravel-pit dust concerns and questions about data center exceptions during public comment

During public comment, resident Carl Shumpert urged action on mud and dust from the Wabash Road gravel pit and said the site lacks a truck wash; meeting staff advised him to speak directly with the pit operators. Kristen Moon voiced concern about the Board of Zoning Appeals special-exception process for data centers. Shirley Smiley, representing the Mexico Regional Sewer District, raised issues with the Auditor's office; Auditor Annette Phillippo said she was not aware of problems and offered multiple times to speak with Smiley immediately following the meeting or at any other convenient time.

Commissioners noted they do not have authority over another elected official's office in response to the Auditor's-office complaint. No formal action was taken during the meeting on the gravel-pit or data-center public comments; staff were directed to follow up where appropriate.
