Coquille Junior/Senior High students present ELA projects and leadership activities

Albert Dixon introduced a spotlight presentation from Coquille Junior/Senior High focused on junior-high English language arts. Miss Little described classroom practices intended to help students "find their voice," including a weekly reading series she called "first chapter Friday," creative writing assignments and a leadership program that supports school-life activities such as decorating halls for Halloween and producing short skits for assemblies.
Two students spoke about their projects. Abby described using Canva for an "all about me" slideshow and praised the creative freedom the assignment provided. Miley explained that a summer-experience essay and a corresponding collage helped her organize writing and practice creativity. Board members asked whether the class would continue Socratic seminars and praised the energy and engagement of the students.
