Coquille SD 8 board approves South Coast ESD local service plan

The Coquille School District 8 board voted to approve the South Coast ESD Local Service Plan (LSP) after a presentation by Paul Peterson, superintendent of South Coast ESD.
"This local service plan on your agenda tonight is largely unchanged from the LSP you approved last year," Peterson said, describing the LSP review and approval process across the region. He told the board that tier 2 services make up around 95% of ESD resolution dollars, with tier 1 covering core services such as homeschool registration, audiology testing, birth-to-3 evaluations and the safe schools program. Peterson also noted the plan had been approved by area superintendents on Nov. 20 and by the South Coast ESD board on Dec. 9.
Board member Steve moved to approve the plan; a second was recorded and the board voted unanimously in favor. The meeting then proceeded to a consent agenda that was approved by voice vote.
The board did not request amendments to the LSP during the meeting. Questions from trustees focused on funding sources for ESD services; Peterson said the state school fund and local tax contributions support ESD allocations and that the ESD also pursues grants and contracts to supplement those dollars.
