Administrators presented district strategies to improve key SB 141 metrics in early grades. For 3rd-grade ELA, staff described a focus on fidelity to core curriculum, 90-minute ELA blocks, phonics/science-of-reading interventions and progress monitoring to improve oral reading fluency targets from roughly 73 WPM to about 114 WPM by year-end. "We really wanna focus on the 6 writing traits as part of that work to eliminate the learning gaps," a presenter said.
For 8th-grade math, staff described the use of Big Ideas Math, Amplify and IXL, 50-minute daily math periods and plans to add intervention class periods for tier 3 students; the district also plans K–12 math alignment and additional professional development to address a large share of students scoring at Level 1. Administrators emphasized teacher retention and consistent pedagogy as key levers for improvement.
