At Monday's board meeting, Lincoln School of Early Learning staff brought students and teachers to demonstrate hands-on science lessons used in pre-K classrooms. The teacher, Kaylee (S5), described activities such as Oobleck and an annual volcano project that lets children observe acid-base reactions and gas production, and she showed how caterpillars are raised in class through metamorphosis.
Kaylee explained learning objectives alongside the activities: "This is Oobleck, and it is a liquid and a solid," she said, and she described using a pepper-and-soap experiment to teach handwashing: "If you put soap on your hand and you stick it in there, the pepper runs away." Board members praised the engagement and creativity and complimented the teachers for building excitement about science at an early age.
