Coquille SD 8 forms committees to prepare for Senate Bill 141 accountability changes

The superintendent updated the board on the district’s planning for Senate Bill 141, the state education accountability act.
Wayne said district administrators organized six committees—each led by an administrator—to review longitudinal data, current practices and regional trends and to make recommendations in areas including K–2 attendance, third- and eighth-grade proficiency, ninth-grade on-track, four-year graduation, five-year completer pathways and mental-health/reengagement. He said more than 60 staff participated, each committee met at least three times, and committees will present detailed SB141 plans to the board in advance of the district’s June budget approval. Wayne also noted the district’s prior five-year contract investment in the IXL platform and said the district is monitoring whether IXL will be adopted at the state level to avoid increased costs.
Board members asked questions about next steps and interim assessment selection; Wayne said the state has adopted three interim assessments and the district is awaiting a fourth state decision and will finalize its assessment plan in coming months.
