Board members and staff discussed several facilities items during the meeting, including gym-floor finishing choices, paint adhesion problems in high areas, and recent security upgrades to exterior doors.
On gym floors a board member argued for water-based finishes because they cure faster and avoid yellowing, and another member noted cost and contractor preference for oil-based products. “Personally, I prefer the water based because... within 3 to 5 days, typically, you can have it brand new to that spot,” a committee member said while discussing durability and maintenance trade-offs.
Separately, staff and the board reviewed recent paint adhesion failures in a high wall area and discussed possible remedies including epoxy surface treatments and checking block beams for trapped water. The board asked staff to contact the contractor about warranty work and to investigate moisture sources before repainting.
On security upgrades, the superintendent described new doorbell-style external stations and cameras that let office staff see and buzz in visitors; the superintendent said this has reduced problems such as students wedging rocks in exterior doors and improved real-time monitoring.
