Neighbors split as board schedules hearing on Hathcock Lane campground permit

At a public comment period, neighbors and applicants debated a special-use permit request to operate a campground on Hathcock Lane. Joe Phillips (speaker 7) and Rebecca Jones (speaker 12) opposed the permit, raising concerns about sewage disposal for RVs in a floodplain and the possibility the use could become commercial in future ownership. Phillips urged the board to add a condition prohibiting commercial operation; "We add a condition to the SUP that only the landowners, their family, and guests can use the property," he said.

Applicants and supporting neighbors argued the campground would primarily serve family visitors and that septic engineering work is underway. Phil Sandridge (speaker 17), an applicant, said the septic system is engineered and they are waiting on the board decision before proceeding. After public comments and a staff report (case 25SUP357, recommended 7–1 by the planning commission), the board voted to schedule a public hearing for the campground on July 14 at 6 p.m., allowing more detailed input and conditions to be considered before a final decision.
