Committee adopts second readings and advances a package of new policies including cell-phone and hazing rules

The Lincoln School Committee approved second readings of the code of professional responsibility and the tenure policy by voice vote and advanced a group of first readings covering the transportation policy, a new cell-phone policy required by recent legislation, a revised code of conduct/social media policy, and a hazing policy.
A committee member noted three of the four grouped policies are new and described the cell-phone policy as required by recent legislation. "So if you look at ... the cell phone policy is new, and is in is a requirement to have this in place, based on legislation last year that required the upper district to have a policy," the committee member said. The hazing policy was drafted in anticipation of pending state legislation and was presented as representing best practice given multiple incidents in the past year.
The committee voted in favor of the second readings and of the grouped first readings by voice vote; principals will be asked to develop protocols for policies that require site-level implementation.
