Board accepts Zone 1 resignation and declares vacancy with multiple application deadlines proposed

Board member Elizabeth Reeser read a resignation letter from Josh Childress and the Santiam Canyon School Board of Directors voted to accept it during its Dec. 16, 2025 regular meeting.
Mrs. Lynda Harrington moved to accept the resignation and Mrs. Melissa Allison seconded; the motion passed 4-0. The board then formally declared a vacancy for Zone One, Position Two and discussed how to fill the seat at a future meeting.
Superintendent Krista Nieraeth outlined several timeline options for accepting applications: she initially suggested accepting applications through Feb. 3, 2026 and selecting a candidate at the Feb. 11, 2026 meeting; Mr. Carl Anderson proposed a Jan. 31, 2026 cutoff; Ms. Nieraeth later suggested a Jan. 29, 2026 deadline at 4 p.m. She said the vacancy notice would be posted on the district website, on the readerboard, in the Canyon Weekly, on the radio and on Facebook, and that staff member Lisa Follis would coordinate some of that outreach.
The board did not adopt a single, final application deadline during the meeting. The board motion to declare the vacancy was moved by Mr. Anderson, seconded by Mrs. Allison and passed 4-0. The board indicated it may either interview candidates publicly at a meeting or appoint a candidate based on the applications, but said any appointment must occur during an open public session.
