Students from Washington High School FFA and their advisor told the board Aug. 10 about a last‑minute invitation to exhibit livestock at the Great American State Fair in Washington, D.C., the paperwork and animal health requirements they had to meet in 48 hours, and the students’ outreach efforts while there.
Advisor/presenter S12 described rapidly coordinating vaccinations, health certificates and USDA requirements so the chapter could accept the invitation. Student Mason Friend (S9) said, "This was a very this was a once in a lifetime event that I thought was really cool," and other students recounted meeting federal officials and doing showmanship demonstrations for the public. S12 also thanked Jefferson County Schools and principal "mister Shoen" for chapter support and named local businesses and volunteers who covered medical and logistical costs.
Trustees complimented the students and advisor, noting the educational value of advocacy and public outreach. The presentation included references to media coverage: a Washington Post front‑page appearance and interviews on Fox News were reported by students and the advisor.
