Belpre moves forward with first reading to adopt Ohio Building Code; companion resolution delayed

Councilmember Mr. Ambrozy introduced for first reading an ordinance to adopt the Ohio Building Code as Chapter 1301 of Belpre’s codified ordinances; the motion was placed on the agenda and received an aye vote to advance to the next meeting for further consideration.

Mr. Ambrozy asked that a companion resolution asking the Ohio Board of Building Standards to certify Belpre for residential code enforcement be held, citing wording concerns. During public comment Bob Rauch of 511 Ridge Street asked about permit costs and how inspections would be handled; Rauch said, “We are moving all our planned reviews and inspections to the Southeast Ohio Building Department including plumbing. You will have to have both a plumbing permit and a building permit.” City Law Director Webster explained permit submissions will be online and not require in-person appearances.
