Resident urges the board to make packet materials readable by screen readers
Summary
A resident told the school board that portions of the meeting packet — notably a PowerPoint — were not optically readable and asked the district to ensure future submissions are accessible to people who rely on screen readers.

During the citizen comment portion of the meeting, a resident (speaker 5) said a portion of the packet had to be read aloud because their assistive software could not read the file, and urged the board to require that submitted materials include optically readable text going forward. "We would encourage you to check that, things that are submitted for the packet in the future, do have, optically readable text so that people who rely on screen readers due to a disability can review the packet and be prepared for the meeting," the commenter said.
Board members acknowledged the concern and thanked the speaker for bringing the accessibility issue to the board's attention. The comment was received during the citizen's coverage portion and no formal action was recorded at the meeting; staff follow-up on accessibility standards and submission guidelines was requested informally by the chair.
