Solicitor: Century 3 Mall owes $230,000; council hears multiple code-enforcement complaints

Solicitor DiLucente informed council that the former Century 3 Mall owes approximately $230,000 and that demolition of portions of the property is about a month away; he said both criminal and civil condemnation actions remain active in the courts. "There are violations of Century 3 mall. There is $230,000 owed," DiLucente said during the meeting and added the borough's legal team is coordinating with the district attorney's office.

During citizen-comment time residents raised several code-enforcement issues. Larry Linder (4201 Fleetwood Drive) said a community church converted into a four-unit apartment appears to be operating as a business and continues to violate prior court orders; Solicitor DiLucente said court processes govern next steps and that he would try to provide a civil-hearing date. Chris McNally described deterioration at the former Westwood Golf Course, reporting overgrown weeds, an abandoned truck on the fairway and illegal dumping near Northgate and Homeville Road, and urged the planning commission to revise development standards; Mr. Anthony said some property-maintenance enforcement may be limited where land has reverted to undeveloped status. Jan Bonnaci asked about grass-height enforcement and was told the code enforcement threshold is six inches and complaints prompt inspections.
