Principal Lisa Wendel and Principal DeAnna Williams presented attendance data and outreach steps to the school board. Wendel said she cited SWIS data and has been calling parents and sending letters to families to improve attendance, noting that "April is typically tough as students become restless." Williams reported on-track rates: Pacific High School (PHS) students were 100% on track (14/14), Family Academy students were 68% on track (4/6), and the district total was 90% (18/20). The board noted a 90% attendance goal per class.
Board member Bob Brown asked why the district's results appear low compared with statewide figures. Superintendent Aaron Miller explained there is a difference between daily assessments and state assessments and identified possible causes including test anxiety and core language skills. Williams recommended practice sessions to familiarize students with test language and format, and Judy Miles suggested reinforcing academic vocabulary to help students perform better on assessments.
