Superintendent outlines $1.5 million health-center grant proposal with Columbia Health Services

During the superintendent's report Superintendent (S6) described a proposed $1,500,000 grant in coordination with Columbia Health Services to expand on-campus medical and therapeutic services for students and families. He said the district is working to identify a site near an education wing and stressed the project aims to be connected to, but physical separate from, the main building to lower stigma and allow easier evening and family access.
"So $1,500,000 grant, in coordination, with Columbia Health Services," Superintendent (S6) said, describing plans for after-school groups, family therapy and athletic medical support. Board members asked whether the project would maintain the existing Spencer Health and Wellness namesake; a board member urged honoring that community-originated name and the superintendent responded the district intends to preserve the historical name when possible.
Superintendent (S6) also said the grant is competitive, the district has met with Senator Merkley's staff, and the earliest notification is expected in roughly 6–12 weeks. No final site selection or board authorization to accept funds was made at the meeting; the presentation was informational and part of the superintendent report.
