Bastrop ISD board unanimously denies Level III student grievance

At its Feb. 3, 2026 special called meeting, the Bastrop Independent School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously to deny a Level III student grievance. The board reconvened into open session at 6:59 p.m. after a closed-session attorney consultation and deliberation over student information under Texas Government Code §§551.071 and 551.0821.

Vice‑President Chris M. Dillon moved to deny the grievance; Carol A. Armstrong seconded the motion. President Ashley Mutschink called for a vote by a show of hands; the minutes record each listed board member voting in favor and note, “MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.” Those recorded as voting yea were Place 1 – Carol A. Armstrong; Place 2 – Josh Coy; Place 4 – Priscilla Ruiz; Place 5 – Vice‑President Chris M. Dillon; and Place 7 – President Ashley Mutschink.

The action followed closed-session consultation with the district’s attorney and a closed deliberation on the student matter, as allowed by the cited statutes. The meeting minutes also note that, pursuant to SB 413, the official minutes will record each board member’s vote and be posted on the district’s website within seven days, but will remain unofficial until approved at the following month’s board meeting.

No public comments were made on the grievance during Open Forum, and the minutes do not record any further explanation of the grievance’s factual basis or remedies sought. The board did not announce any immediate next steps in open session.
