The Port Orford–Langlois School Board voted March 16 to adopt a four-day school week for the 2026–27 school year, with classes restructured to add 15 minutes to each school day to meet state instructional-hour requirements. Superintendent Aaron Miller presented the proposal after community engagement and a district calendar committee review.
Board members discussed how Friday electives would be handled and raised concerns about classified staff work hours and Friday childcare for enrolled students. Judy Miles moved to approve the four-day schedule pending final proofreading by district office staff; Korinn Hockett seconded. After an initial abstention by Bob Brown, he later changed his vote to approval and the motion passed unanimously. Aaron Miller summarized the plan, saying, "He is proposing a 4-day week." The board also noted survey results showing roughly a 50/50 split among students and community members about the change.
Board members said the schedule would create space for additional professional development for classified staff and might help recruitment. Trustees asked administration to track attendance and other data in the first year so the board can evaluate outcomes. The board directed staff to report back on childcare options and any budget implications tied to the calendar change.
