On Oct. 6 the South Williamsport Area School Board approved the first reading of several policies covering academic standards, curriculum, extracurriculars, student records and a new Policy 815.2 addressing use of generative artificial intelligence in education. The first-reading motion was moved by Miller and seconded by Bachman and passed unanimously.
Separately, the board approved second readings for governance and safety-related policies (Policy 011, Policy 113.1/113.2 for students with disabilities, Policy 236.1 Threat Assessment, Policy 805.2 School Security Personnel and others). That motion passed on a roll call with President Todd Engel recorded as "no" and all other members voting yes. The minutes do not record detailed amendments to the policy language; the approvals move each policy forward in the district's formal adoption process.
