At the March 17 meeting, licensed and classified staff told the committee they want stronger representation on candidate interview teams and raised concerns about perceived favoritism.
Chad Clouse, speaking for himself as a licensed-staff representative, asked that SEA elected officers be allowed to choose who serves on the interview team and said a remark from the prior meeting that "we would just pick our friends" was concerning. Jane Crater voiced agreement with Clouse’s position.
Classified staff member Meghan McKeown said she was the only classified staffer to sign up to serve on an interview committee and described the relationship between the Oregon School Employees Association (OSEA) and the district as "fractured," which she said may depress volunteer participation among classified employees. The committee discussed reopening the classified survey to increase participation (see related article).
