During the Oct. 8 La Center School District linkage workshop, staff proposed reinstating the Watchdogs volunteer program and creating a life-skills class to teach practical tasks such as changing a tire.
Minutes record that one teacher said some families need food or clothing assistance; the district has shifted away from directly providing those materials and now provides contacts to outside resources, because the district is focused on student learning. The staff proposal for Watchdogs and a life-skills offering was presented as a suggestion for the board to consider.
Because the meeting was a workshop, the district recorded the proposals in minutes and did not take formal action that day.
