Fort Bend ISD hears parent concerns as district presents draft elementary boundary plans

At its Dec. 15 meeting, the Fort Bend Independent School District Board of Trustees received an information presentation on draft attendance boundary plans for elementary schools and Amy Coleman Middle School from Monica Willis (SBAC chair), consultant Bob Templeton of Zonda, and Deputy Superintendent Beth Martinez. The presentation followed a public comment period in which multiple parents and students urged the board to prioritize long-term stability and transparency in rezoning decisions.

During public comment, parents and students said frequent rezoning causes instability for students and staff and requested clearer timelines and data behind maps. Parent Tressy Garcia told the board that "the 13 portable buildings are now permanent classrooms and are not safe and secure for the students," calling for immediate attention to capacity at Elkins High School. Other speakers asked that boundary planning include middle and high school projections and that the district publish the data and criteria used to draw proposed lines so families can evaluate trade-offs.

The presentation was positioned as a step in the ongoing SBAC process; staff indicated the draft maps will be refined as additional growth data and community input are considered. No final rezoning vote was taken at the meeting. The board accepted the information item for further consideration and public engagement as the district continues its boundary-planning timeline.
