High Bridge council authorizes golf course RFP, approves sprayer purchase

At its July 16 meeting, the Borough of High Bridge council voted to authorize a request for proposals (RFP) for the borough-owned golf course and approved purchasing a new golf sprayer.

Council adopted Resolution 170-2026, allowing the borough to issue an RFP for the golf course. Councilwoman Mary Hamlin summarized the Golf Committee's input and described the borough's financial and physical position with the course; Administrator Richard Sheola said the RFP will include a lease structure for potential operators and both Hamlin and Mayor Michele Lee said additional drafting and legal review are needed. The motion passed on a roll call vote with six councilmembers voting yes.

Separately, the council discussed and approved Resolution 160-2026 to award a contract for a golf sprayer. Councilwoman Hamlin explained the intent behind the purchase during consideration of the resolution. That motion also passed on a 6-0 roll call vote.

A member of the public, Alfred Schweikert, had asked earlier in the meeting whether the public could view the golf contract before proposals were solicited; Mayor Lee said “there [is] no contract at this time,” and council members noted a site visit for bidders could be helpful.

Both the RFP and the equipment purchase were handled as separate resolutions on the council agenda; the RFP authorizes staff to draft and issue purchasing documents subject to further legal review. No timetable for award of an operator or lease was specified at the meeting.
