The Lincoln School Committee advanced grouped first readings of four policies: a transportation policy, a new cell-phone policy, a revised code of conduct/social-media policy and a hazing policy. The motions were moved, seconded and carried on voice votes.
A committee member explained that three of the four are new policies. He said the cell-phone policy is prompted by legislation enacted last year that requires districts to adopt such a rule. On the hazing policy he said it was prepared “in anticipation of pending” legislation from the General Assembly and intended to represent best practices; the social-media revision updates language to cover volunteers and affiliated groups while recognizing First Amendment rights.
Committee members asked for clarity on implementation steps; the Chair said principals will be asked to develop school-level protocols that the superintendent will approve where policies require site-level procedures.
