Media Borough council adopts 2035 comprehensive plan, accepts planning-commission change

Media Borough Council on June 18 unanimously adopted the borough's 2035 comprehensive plan, approving the document subject to the Planning Commission's recommended change to remove "large flats" from the industrial zone.

"I cannot tell you how impressed I am always with your professionalism, but also your commitment to the community," said Adam Texa, the IMEG project manager who led the consultant team that prepared the plan, thanking council and staff for the collaborative process. The council amended the motion to accept the Planning Commission's single recommended edit and then voted aye; the transcript records the outcome as a unanimous voice vote.

Council members framed the document as a 10-year vision rather than an implementation plan. Manager Foreman and planning staff said specific policy work will follow in implementation phases ' for example, a traffic-calming plan and an open-space plan ' which will translate the comprehensive plan's goals into projects. The Planning Commission's requested change was described in the meeting as intended to avoid allowing an overconcentration of large apartment-style flats in the industrial district while still enabling a mix of smaller housing types there.

The council discussion and adoption occurred after a public hearing and consultant presentation that included summaries of community engagement and recommended strategies for housing, mobility, stormwater and economic development. The plan will now move into implementation steps and follow-up reviews as staff and council prioritize projects and funding.
