Commission approves Main Street closure for Little Consignment 20th‑anniversary celebration

The Chanute City Commission on June 22 approved a request to temporarily close stretches of Main Street from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 11, 2026, to allow Little Consignment to host a 20‑year anniversary celebration with food trucks and outside vendors.

Amy Sehorn, owner of Little Consignment, told the commission the event will run 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and that downtown merchants on the affected blocks have been consulted. "Cassie Cleaver started consignment in 2006 on Main Street, and then Cora Finley took it over in 2011. I took it over in 2024," Sehorn said, describing the shop's local history and the reason for a downtown celebration. The item was approved by voice vote with no recorded opposing votes.

Commission staff said the event sponsor must ensure all food trucks and vendors obtain the city's required permits and coordinate with the parks department for trash barrels and tables. City staff also noted the request included permission to post temporary no‑parking signs the night before the event and to use city barricades and available electrical hookups for vendors. The commission's approval places the event on the calendar subject to those conditions and any standard permitting requirements.

The commission did not identify a recorded roll‑call tally; the approval was taken by voice vote. The event sponsor was directed to work with community development staff to complete permitting and licensing before the event.
