Board members and staff described extensive summer work on grounds and athletic fields, including practice-field repainting, glueing turf in batting cages, plans to remove rocks and replace with safer surfacing for a middle-school splash-pad area, and work to keep the turf clean and playable. Staff said they will sweep and fluff turf before games and investigate options to share or rent pellet-spreading equipment with nearby schools.
One staff member summarized the tradeoffs of turf versus grass maintenance: while the upfront cost of turf is high, over 15–20 years it can lead to lower recurring maintenance costs. The board and staff also discussed warranty and care information recently provided to the district and noted there had been no fungal or contamination issues reported on the turf.
