The Whitehall trustees approved revisions to the high school student handbook that align policy numbers with board policy, clarify electronic-use rules and add consequences for failing online coursework.
The presenter said high schoolers are allowed to carry phones at passing time, lunch, before and after school while middle-school phones will be held in the office and returned at seventh period. For online classes, the handbook now states that students who do not pass the majority of their online coursework will be required to return to in-person instruction the following semester; the presenter said students who decline in-person placement would need to seek alternative educational options outside the district.
Other updates add weighted GPA language for honors courses, expand notation of dual-credit offerings, and document the district's working relationship with the Montana Youth Challenge Program. The district also updated its electronic-use agreement to match board policy and removed redundant tardy language.
A trustee moved, a second was recorded, and the board approved the high school handbook changes by voice vote.
