The Tomorrow River School District board approved one change to the 2026–27 certified staff handbook: adding three days of paid bereavement leave for the death of an employee's immediate family member. Administrators said the language was negotiated with the union and modeled on templates from other districts.
"What we're adding is three days of paid leave in the event of a death of [an] employee's immediate family member," the administrator explained during the meeting. Board members voted to approve the handbook change during the consent and action items portion of the agenda.
Administrators said staff met to ensure the policy language was framed in a way that would be clear and supportive to employees who are grieving. No changes to salary or other benefits were reported in the recorded discussion.
