Pedals and Pathways event set for May 6 to mark Bike Month

Chair opened the meeting and described the Pedals and Pathways event, saying, "Our Pedals and Pathways event is next Wednesday, May 6th. It's open to the public from 5:30 to 7:30m." The event will be at Authentic Brewing and is intended as a community drop-in where residents can ask transportation questions and meet ACC staff and community partners.

Daniel and other commissioners urged outreach to local groups and noted that the event is part of National Bike Month. Commissioners said ACC staff, nonprofit groups including Bike Athens and the Athens Urbanist, the Greenway Commission and other partners will have tables; Daniel said refreshments had been ordered and quipped that "we'll do more of an update when we have the official meeting after this" as a reminder to follow up. Organizers said helmets and fix-it kits will be available through partner tables and that the event will include information on sidewalks, transit transfer stations and bike-lane priorities. The commission encouraged members to share the event on social media and community channels and to invite neighbors.

The meeting also used the event as an opportunity to discuss ongoing Bike Month activities (National Ride a Bike Day May 3; Bike to Work Week May 11–17; Bike to Work Day May 15) and to solicit help amplifying premade promotional materials from the communications office. Commissioners recommended posting links and outreach materials on the commission's social channels and coordinating volunteers for the evening.
