Seaside School District 10 convened a special meeting to interview applicants for an open board seat and to discuss meeting and reporting procedures. Chair opened the session and announced that Trisha Ko had withdrawn her application and that interviews would proceed with the remaining candidates.
Candidates who spoke to the board emphasized a mix of priorities. One applicant highlighted two years on the district budget committee and urged maintaining reserves and directing funds to students while preparing for emergencies. A second candidate, Kelsey, a community nurse and boosters volunteer, called for stronger outreach and recruitment to retain qualified staff in a high-cost coastal area. A third applicant described experience working with ESS, the district's substitute services provider, and support for expanded career-technical offerings.
No appointment was made at the work session. Chair told members the vacancy will be an action item at the regular board meeting on the 17th; a nomination will be made, require a second and then be put to a vote. Two applicants — Trisha Ko and Justin Whitaker — formally withdrew from consideration during the meeting.
