Dr. Summer Schultz, superintendent of Brookings School District 05-1, said the high-school science classroom and restroom renovation is "running about a week ahead," crediting the local contractor Mills Construction for steady progress.
She said the project includes new science labs, restrooms, study space and some roof repair work; the district expects work to be substantially complete by October–November and hopes to allow the public to tour the spaces after teachers have time to set them up. The superintendent acknowledged there will be some displacement of classrooms in the first quarter while crews complete the work.
Dr. Schultz said the district completed another prioritized roof repair section this summer and has addressed underlying plumbing and air-handler issues as part of longer-term facility planning. She described the renovation as relatively small in square footage but designed to have a significant impact on students' instructional space.
