District plans to move staff out of jeopardized grant roles into SIA or general fund
Summary
Staff told the budget committee the district will transition employees out of small or unstable grant-funded positions into SIA or the general fund where possible and use contracted services for hard-to-fill student-support roles.

Presenters told the committee they are shifting staff out of grant-funded positions that are at risk of loss and into the Student Investment Account (SIA) or the district’s general fund to reduce staffing instability.
A presenter explained the approach: "We've gone through and looked at a couple of the state changes... As staff leave, do we need to replace that position? Do we need to replace a different position? Do we not need to replace that position?" The presenter said the district has been moving smaller, jeopardized grant positions out of direct grant funding over the past two years and expects to complete that transition for most such roles by the end of the year.
Committee members emphasized that some large grants (for example, those tied to Title I) provide sustained staffing and cannot be moved without greater impact; the presenter said for grants where reductions are needed the district can reduce nonstaff spending rather than eliminate personnel. The presenter also said several student-support positions will likely be contracted because those roles have been hard to fill as district FTE.
