Supervisor Houk: interagency push planned for Martin Creek flood mitigation

Supervisor Houk told the council that city staff and regional partners have begun coordinating on mitigation for Morrison Creek and central flooding problems caused by heavy flows that occur roughly every four or five years. Houk said he met with representatives from 'Pack FEMA' (Scott), Skagit County Department of Public Works staff, and the Conservation District to chart next steps toward a solution.

Houk said the initial phase will likely be engineering and feasibility work to determine what will open the system and handle large storm volumes. "So, the first thing would be, you know, to get funding to do the feasibility studies and all that stuff of what actually would work to open that up and um take care of all those volumes of water in those time frames," he said. Houk added that Scott will spearhead efforts to pursue funding and that another meeting was scheduled for the following week.
