St. Clair County previews ALDOT agreement for Riverside (Depot Street) bridge replacement

County officials told commissioners they have received an agreement with the Alabama Department of Transportation for the Riverside bridge-replacement project on Depot Street, project number DMO-A247246, and that an engineering contract will be presented to the commission by the end of the month. "We have finally have that agreement and I'll be bringing a agreement with the engineering firm before you by the end of the month," the county reported.

Commissioners questioned the likely length of any closure to regular traffic during construction. County staff estimated the period when traffic detours are required would be the better part of a year for planning and right-of-way work but said the active closure of the crossing for in-place cast construction would likely be "around six months." The county said it will include plans for a bypass to reduce travel distance during construction. No formal vote occurred during the work session; staff said they will place the agreement and the associated engineering contract on the Tuesday agenda for ratification or further action.
