Planning commission approves Velocity Auto site plan with modified lighting condition

The Draper Planning Commission approved a site plan for Velocity Auto (VAS Investments LLC) at 12276 South Galena Park Boulevard during its Feb. 12 meeting, with a modified lighting condition.

Staff presented the 1.28-acre site-plan application (2024-0341-SP), describing the proposal to use the site for vehicle inventory storage, perimeter landscaping and a photometric plan. Staff recommended approval subject to standard engineering, public works, building, planning and fire conditions and asked the applicant to provide an updated photometric plan that meets the city's maximum illumination ratios. Commissioners clarified the correct after-hours ratio is 2.5:1 (business hours remain 5:1), and the motion to approve included that modification. The motion passed in a recorded vote.

Applicant Andy Whitelock said the company bought the property "almost 2 years ago" and called the corner an "eyesore" that the proposed plan would improve by bringing inventory to the front and enhancing street presence. Staff noted the site would only be used to store vehicles sold by Velocity Auto and that the number of vehicles cannot exceed the parking stalls shown on the approved site plan.
