Union representative Brad said the union has been working to improve communication and that building principals and the superintendent are developing formal protocols to support teacher well-being. He said written protocols for teachers to take breaks will roll out with training in January.
A classified staff member delivering an emotional account said workplace safety is deteriorating and urged the board to act in bargaining: "Since the last school board meeting, there have been more than seven instances in just this building of a staff person being targeted, and some of those have resulted in injuries," the speaker said. The classified staff member asked the district to negotiate training, equipment and functioning safety committees and to make working conditions a bargaining priority.
Superintendent Susan Penrod responded that allegations from earlier meetings had been investigated and reminded staff to report incidents so the district can respond. The board agreed to follow up with leadership and to provide metrics on incident reporting at a future meeting.
