The Santiam Canyon School Board approved a consolidated employee handbook that will be distributed to all staff and contains references to board policies, collective bargaining provisions and new state wage-disclosure requirements.
Administrators said the handbook was developed with union input and legal review. The manual clarifies pay classifications, payroll frequency, mandatory child-abuse reporting procedures and a clause that states board policies and the collective-bargaining agreement supersede handbook provisions. "This document fit both the CBA and all district policies," the superintendent said, and staff explained employees will sign an acknowledgement when they receive the handbook.
Board members thanked staff and union representatives for the collaboration. The handbook will be provided to employees at the start of the school year and updated if board policy or law changes.
