Santiam Canyon board adopts 2026–27 budget, sets tax rate and debt levy

The Santiam Canyon School District board voted to adopt the district’s fiscal year 2026–27 budget and make the necessary appropriations, a motion the board approved after staff read the required resolutions.
Nicole Cooper, the district business manager, explained the legal requirement before the vote: "State law requires all public entities to adopt a balanced budget no later than June 30th, 2026." The board made a motion to adopt resolution 25.26.02, seconded and approved by voice vote.
Trustees then moved to adopt resolution 25.26.03 to impose the district’s permanent operating tax rate and certify the debt-service levy. The board set the operating tax rate at $4.8880 per $1,000 of assessed value and certified a debt-service levy of $1,185,316 to fund general obligation bond payments; Cooper noted the bond itself had previously been approved by voters and this action simply establishes the annual certification for collection.
The board also approved resolution 25.26.04 to designate ending fund balances consistent with GASB 54 reporting requirements. Board members said these actions ensure compliance with state budget law and standard governmental accounting rules.
All motions were moved, seconded and approved during the meeting; no roll-call tallies were read into the record beyond the board’s voice assent on each motion.
