Superintendent Krista told the board Aug. 12 that preschool enrollment had increased to the mid-30s and the program has a waitlist; the district is working with donors — including the Oregon Community Foundation — to secure preschool funding for the coming year.
Krista said 38 preschoolers participated this past year (up from 24 in 2024–25 in earlier years), and the preschool program’s diversified enrollment includes children with IEP-equivalent preschool plans and native English learners. “We have a wait list right now; capacity is 40,” she said.
Krista also reviewed summer facilities work: a new roof on the Q Hut, repainted track and parking bumpers, new cafeteria acoustical panels and replaced kitchen exhaust fans that previously ventilated toward the HVAC system. She credited custodial staff and a teen employment program for much of the summer maintenance work and said the district hired multiple staff and has ongoing recruitment to fill late resignations.
The superintendent confirmed the district will start staff training Aug. 24 and students on Sept. 8, and reminded the board that the district’s audit for FY25-26 is scheduled to begin Sept. 28.
