Roads report: storm repairs progress, county says it's a training ground as experienced operators leave

Road & Bridge staff told the county on July 15 that crews remain focused on storm repairs while continuing scheduled projects, and that some work is funded by oil-field activity.

Mr. Davis said crews were addressing washouts from a recent storm and listed projects including Owens George Road (completed), Keiesler Road (near completion), Harkkins Lane and Dristol Bridge Road. He said the department would move crews from Dristol Bridge to Anderson Road and on the east side to Strickland Springs Road. "So, our contract mowers''they're still running, but they had to shut down after the rain," he said.

On staffing, Mr. Davis reported one resignation since the last meeting and seven full-time vacancies. Commissioners expressed concern about pay competition, with one member saying the county is effectively "a training ground" because promoted employees gain experience and then are hired away. The court approved the personnel changes by unanimous vote.

Commissioners also approved a utility application and a private road issuance order for Precinct 4 in separate motions during the road department portion of the meeting.
