Board approves Strandberg variance to separate feedlot residence from feedlot

Ryan and Kathryn Strandberg received approval from the Morrison County Board of Adjustment to separate a feedlot residence from a feedlot within the required setback on July 7. Staff entered Section 1209.1 of the Morrison County Land Use Control Ordinance, aerial photos and a site photo into the record; 17 notices were sent to neighboring property owners.

Board members discussed the reciprocal nature of setbacks and the need to preserve contiguous acreage to meet the 75‑acre threshold; staff noted other contiguous acres would be included to achieve the required acreage. Member Clint Kathrein observed the property includes approximately 70.59 acres and raised practical questions about shared sewer and easement requirements. Kathryn Strandberg said they "want to keep their home and we need to sell the farm." On a motion by Clint Kathrein, seconded by Greg Colome, the board voted unanimously to approve the variance.

The board recorded that easement arrangements or shared‑sewer agreements may be necessary to preserve utilities and septic service after the split; any changes to septic or tier designation would require future compliance with applicable setbacks and permitting.
