The Minersville Area Board approved a Memorandum of Understanding with Special Olympics Pennsylvania on July 23 to create a Unified Champion Schools program centered on bocce ball. The district will receive a $1,000 bocce coach stipend from Special Olympics Pennsylvania to implement the sport in district schools.
On recommendation from district administration, the board approved coach appointments for the 2025/2026 indoor bocce season: Megan Siminitus as Head Coach ($500) and Maria Spotts as Assistant Coach ($500). The motion included a prorated-pay clause if state-mandated closures shorten the season, with payments prorated from the PIAA's first official practice date.
The MOU and coaching hires were approved on voice and roll-call votes as recorded in the meeting minutes.
