At its Aug. 23 meeting the Minersville Area School District board accepted multiple resignations and approved a slate of new hires, stipends and role assignments for the 2023–24 school year.
The board accepted resignations including Margaret Schultz (part‑time crossing guard, effective 07/31/2023, 34 years of service) and several professional employees. On the recommendation of the superintendent the board approved new hires including temporary professional employees and part‑time instructional aides at $14.73 per hour. The board also approved mentor stipends ($500 each) and extra‑curricular appointments: Emily Beil was approved as Choir Director (EC) for $1,392 and Assistant Band Director for $2,853.
Board members approved appointing Danielle Raczka as Homeless Liaison and Foster Care point of contact for the 2023–24 school year at a stipend of $1,500. Special Education Director Jill Atkinson described the need for additional summer IEP work, and the board ratified additional summer hours for special-education guidance teachers ($30/hour, maximum five hours per IEP) for duties outside contractual obligations.
Superintendent Dr. Carl G. McBreen told the board the hiring pool is slim, noting, "There are very few people going into the profession," and said the district continues recruitment efforts.
