Superior hears first reading to adopt 2024 International Fire Code; second reading set for Sept. 28

Town staff introduced a first reading ordinance to adopt the 2024 International Fire Code by reference and align the town's municipal code with updates from Mountain View Fire Protection District. Deputy Chief and Fire Marshal Jeff Webb explained that the fire district adopts a code and the municipalities ratify it; the district uses conditional 'if/then' language to harmonize varying local preferences for items such as residential sprinklers.

Webb said the district timed its adoption to align with the various jurisdictions it serves and that the proposed town ordinance brings local amendments into alignment with Mountain View's standards. "The fire code's an odd duck," Webb said while describing the differing approaches across municipalities and counties. There was no public comment during the first-reading hearing; staff said the ordinance will return for second reading and potential adoption on Sept. 28, consistent with statutorily required notice periods.
