The City of Bedford Board of Works and Safety voted to approve Resolution 6-2026, instituting a 90-day trial of 12-hour shifts for police officers beginning in late August. Chief N. Henderson told the board the trial is intended to "see how it goes and then we'll revisit it at that time." The resolution passed on a voice vote.
Chief Moore also updated the board on staffing: two candidates, Cameron Hagen and John (surname recorded variably in the transcript as Tance/Tren/Terrence), completed department requirements, medical and psychological clearances and pension-board approval. "I believe Cameron Hagen and John Tren will be an asset to the Bedford Police Department," Chief Moore said as he asked the board to approve final hiring. The board approved both hires and separately approved the new hire law-enforcement bonus and reimbursement agreements by voice vote.
The trial of 12-hour shifts is scheduled to start Saturday, August 29 (as stated in the presentation) for a 90-day evaluation; the board said it would revisit any impacts after the trial period. The hiring approvals are subject to the usual final administrative processing.
