Board accepts master‑matrix score for Summit swine site after neighbors express concern

Kent Krauss of Pinnacle explained the Summit application to the board and said the proposed two‑building, covered facility would house up to 4,999 finishing head and use covered, reinforced‑concrete pits with continuous pour construction. Krauss told the board the site earned 480 points on the Iowa master matrix (above the 440 minimum) after scoring well on separation distances and manure management measures: "I'm Kent Krauss and I'm with Pinnacle in Iowa Falls, Iowa..." he said while walking through the scoring breakdown.

Several nearby residents spoke to the board; one neighbor said, "I didn't want to deal with the smell of it," and others raised concerns about the number of existing confinements in the township, road impacts from manure hauling and the concentration of facilities. Staff noted the applicant had included a closure plan and committed to injection or incorporation of manure at application and said DNR review would continue. The board voted to accept the master‑matrix scoring and proceed with the board of adjustment review, with a subsequent supervisors' vote to follow the board of adjustment's findings.
