Council adopts water emergency contingency plan, to submit plan to state

The Sunman Town Council approved Resolution 2026-02 on a motion and second, adopting a water emergency contingency plan for the town's public water system and agreeing to submit the plan to the Department of Environmental Management for their records.

Council members said the plan — drafted with the alliance and reviewed by staff — outlines protocols for man-made and natural disasters and designates February each year for review. A speaker who had worked on the document noted the plan clarifies emergency authorities, saying, "I can in an emergency either one of us can approve emergency expenditures," and emphasized the practical steps it provides. The council also thanked staff and partners for completing the document at no charge and noted the plan will be revised annually or whenever staff or law changes require it.

The council discussed logistics for keeping copies available to the public: copies will be kept at town hall, the wellfield and the marshal's office, and one copy will be placed in municipal vehicles. The council agreed to file the plan with the state agency and record signatures on the original document.
