Resident urges independent inspection of complex before opening

A resident asked officials to hire an inspector unaffiliated with local counties to certify the project’s safety before the public uses the complex. "At this point, I believe we need somebody that's not within or tied to any of these counties to come in and inspect the project to be able to tell us if it's safe or not," the resident said.

A staff member responded that the inspectors used on the project come from outside the contractors and include the architect, MEP and an ADA inspector. "First of all, on the the inspectors, those do come from outside. So, it's the the architect, MEP, and an ADA inspector. Those have no affiliation with any of the contractors," the staff member said. The group also discussed whether the county or the project consultant contracted those inspectors; the discussion referenced both the county and the project consultant as possible contractors for inspection services.

The resident said she had not seen the inspection reports and asked for documentation before allowing children to use the facility. Meeting participants did not produce a public, written inspection report during this exchange; staff described testing and warranty steps taken but did not provide an on-the-record document during the discussion. The meeting continued into subsequent items about testing methods, concrete specifications and warranty coverage.
