Grantsville presents transportation master plan refresh as population projections rise

Grantsville officials updated the Tooele Valley RPO March 9 on their transportation master plan refresh, which the city funded in part with a $90,000 UDOT grant and consultant support. Bill Coob, Grantsville’s community and economic development director, outlined an inventory of pavement conditions, revised roadway cross‑sections to align with state guidance, and an emphasis on active transportation and safe street connections as development accelerates.

Coob flagged projected population growth as a central driver of the update: "we're anticipating doubling that over the next 25 years and getting up to around 30,000 35,000 people," he said, and said that growth makes network connectivity — including potential east‑west corridors adjacent to the Army Depot — an important planning priority. Coob said the city is coordinating with county and state partners so local master‑plan recommendations will integrate into the broader regional network.

Members asked technical questions about trail alignment and whether the plan would recommend which side of the road sidewalks or trails should be placed; Coob said locations offering better school and neighborhood connections were preferred. He noted right‑of‑way work is under way for a northern corridor adjacent to the Army Depot and that map lines remain flexible until final design. The RPO heard the presentation and offered feedback but took no formal action on the city plan during the meeting.
